I have endured a terrible experience with Lakewood Ranch Oral and Facial Surgery. I was scheduled for a hip replacement surgery. However, about a week and a half before my scheduled surgery, I developed a nasty toothache. It turned out to be an infection, so it needed to be dealt with before my hip surgery. I turned to Lakewood Ranch Oral and Facial Surgery and Dr. Austin Lyman for help. This decision turned out to be a terrible mistake. Initially, I went in for a consultation. I arrived 20 minutes early and despite an almost empty waiting room I was not called back until 25 minutes after my appointment. Also, I was charged a $290 consultation fee. When I questioned my insurance coverage, I was informed that without my insurance my consultation fee would have been doubled. Then, when I spoke with Dr. Austin Lyman, I found him to be quite condescending and patronizing. I felt that he didn't listen to me, nor did he address my concerns. He quickly left. Then a young assistant returned and informed me that the single toothache extraction would cost me over $3,100 out of pocket. When I questioned my insurance coverage (of which I thought would cover 80% of cost), I was informed that without my insurance that my out of pocket would have been double the $3,100. Additionally, I was required to pay $275 down in order to get on the schedule with the rest due on the day of the procedure. Well, I was shell-shocked, and paid the $275 on a Mastercard. All the way home I was disturbed by the very high cost to me. When, I got home, I called my insurance. They told me that my coverage changed and that they would not cover any of the procedure. Additionally, they told me that over $3,100 for a single tooth extraction was extremely high. Well, I can't afford that much, so I immediately called Dr. Lyman's office to cancel the procedure and get the $275 returned. I was told that it was too late to credit my Mastercard, and that they would send me a reimbursement check. I called back a few days later to check on the check, but I had to leave a message. I received no call back and no check. Another week passed and I called again to inquire when I would be receiving the reimbursement. I spoke to a young woman who said she would check with billing and call back before the day was over. However, I received no call back. I feel that the office is not being honest with me. They told me that without my insurance my costs would be doubled, but then my insurance informed me that they denied my claim. Then, I had been promised the $275 reimbursement. Yet, it has now been almost 2 weeks and I have not been reimbursed, and I feel like they are avoiding me. However, I will not give up, and I will continue to persist on getting the $275 reimbursement. Also, I have found another provider who will be extracting my tooth for one third of what Dr. Lyman and Lakewood Ranch Oral and Facial Surgery was requiring of me. I am very unhappy and upset with this business, and I would extract my own tooth before ever considering using them again.
